Foster Powell Community Garden

The Foster Powell Community Garden was conceived in the Spring of 2011 and development began in Spring 2013. The land at the corner of SE 62nd Ave and Powell Blvd, which is owned by ODOT, had once been a gas station and is about 80% covered in asphalt. It is assumed that there are still gas tanks beneath the lot. ODOT purchased the lot in the 1980’s for potential road widening that never happened. It’s unclear how long the lot was vacant but it may have been as long as 50 years.

ODOT is allowing the property to be used by the Foster Powell Neighborhood Association indefinitely but have a few rules: no digging in exposed dirt, no planting food directly in the soil, no removal of asphalt and no permanent structures or trees.
